Considering a Wedding Reception Location
Where's the party? That may be the first question you ask yourself after the months of riding the emotional rollercoaster. The
wedding ceremony is a culmination of the love between two people. Afterwards, the reception provides an opportunity to celebrate
the new couple. Invites will excitedly wait for the lights to switch from "formal" to "informal." You have the event, you have
the invites, so where's the party?
Consider the following information when searching for a
Wedding Reception Site.
The guest list is a huge factor in considering a wedding reception site. Get a general idea of how many guests will attend. Be aware
that many sites have several accommodations available for different events.
Search for a reception venue that is aligned with the atmosphere you desire for your wedding. This is your special day, so design it
as you wish. There is no sense in considering a small venue if you want a grand and traditional reception.
When considering a site, take a look at the entire venue. The site may be conveniently located and offer great rooms at an affordable
price, but may be lacking in other areas. Survey the size of the room, the carpeting, the lighting, the staffing, etc. In addition,
visit the site the same time of day as the reception will take place. A warm, inviting room may look differently at night. After
seeing the whole picture, you may come to a different conclusion.
Ask each site about additional services they offer; you may be able to get an inclusive deal. On the other hand, if you plan on
involving outside vendors, ask the reception site about their rules on the subject. Some sites may have restrictions regarding using
outside vendors or only allow specific times to receive outside deliveries.
How much energy and creativity would you like to invest towards the reception? If you choose a nontraditional site (such as a college
campus or park), then you may be responsible for most of the equipment or help. Some wedding reception sites may cost a lot, but take
care of all the reception details once you're booked.
Inquire about deposits and payment requirements. Be sure to ask about additional fees such as taxes, service charges, and any other
fees before signing a contract.
You can reserve your wedding reception site, but you cannot reserve the sun and clear skies for that day (wonder how much that would
cost!). If your reception is taking place outside, then be sure to have an alternative plan in place with the wedding reception site.
Fog, excessive heat, frost, and rain are notorious party crashers.
It is convenient to have the ceremony and wedding reception at one site, but not always a possibility. You can lessen the chance of
guests getting lost by handing out directions to the reception after the ceremony along with a telephone number to call for assistance.
Receive quotes from three to five
Wedding Reception Sites before making things final. Having choices enables you to make the best
decision.
